Help to Buy (Shared Equity)

Government co-owns up to 40% of your home to help you enter the market.

What is Help to Buy (Shared Equity)?

Help to Buy is a federal shared-equity scheme where the government takes an ownership stake of up to 40% (for new homes) or 30% (for existing homes) in exchange for reducing your deposit and loan size. You buy out the government's share over time or at sale.

Why it matters for you

Aimed at low-to-middle income buyers who wouldn't otherwise qualify. Caps on income ($90K single, $120K couple) and price caps by state. The government's share appreciates with the property — so at sale, they take back a proportionate slice of any capital gains.
