VMO (Visiting Medical Officer)
Specialist contracted to hospitals — income splits across multiple streams.
What is VMO?
A Visiting Medical Officer is a specialist who works at a hospital on a contracted (not employed) basis — often splitting their week between hospital sessional work and private practice. Common structure for surgeons, anaesthetists, physicians and procedural specialists.
Why it matters for you
VMO income combines multiple streams: hospital sessional payments, private billing, practice company distributions, locum work. Each lender treats these differently — some count every stream at 100%, others discount heavily. Under our medico policy, we know which lenders assess VMO income most favourably.
